Privacy Policy
Quiet Index is a small app for keeping track of recommendations from friends. We collect what the app needs to work, and nothing else. We do not sell your information, and we do not run advertising or third-party tracking.

What we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address, used to create your account and sign you in.
- Your display name and username, which other people in the app see when you send them a recommendation.
- The recommendations you send and receive — the title, the category (book, movie, or show), and any note you write.
- What you do with them — whether you accepted or dismissed a recommendation, what is in your queue, what you have finished, and the verdict you gave it.
- Who you exchange recommendations with, so the app can show you who sent what.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical information needed to operate the service, such as the requests your app makes to our server and the errors it reports.
What we do not collect
- We do not use analytics or advertising software, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photos, or your browsing history.
- We do not ask for payment card details. If in-app purchases are offered in the future, Apple processes them and we never see your card.
How we use it
We use your information only to run the app: to sign you in, to deliver recommendations between you and the people you choose, to keep your queue and verdicts in sync across your devices, and to respond to you when you contact us. We do not use it to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Who else can see it
Other people in the app. When you send someone a recommendation, they see your display name, your username, and what you wrote. People you have not sent anything to do not see your library.
Service providers. We use a small number of companies to operate the app — our hosting and database provider, and an email provider that delivers sign-in codes. They process your information only to provide those services to us.
Legal. We may disclose information if we are required to by law, or to protect the safety of people using the app.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete the personal information associated with it within 30 days, except where we are required to keep records for legal reasons. Recommendations you sent to other people may remain in their libraries.
Your choices
- You can view and edit your display name and username in the app at any time.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and its data. Email hello@quietindex.app and we will action it.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, including the right to object to processing or to lodge a complaint with a regulator. We honour these requests regardless of where you live.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections between the app and our server. No service can promise perfect security, but we will tell you promptly if we become aware of a breach affecting your information.
Children
Quiet Index is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Where your information is held
Our service providers may store and process your information in the United States. If you use the app from elsewhere, you understand that your information will be transferred there.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant.
